Swim Meet
Information
Mock Meet: The mock meet, held this year on
May 9, is the first “meet” of the season. It is not a
competition against any other team, but a practice for the swimmers
and volunteers. All swimmers swim every stroke (there are no
relays), and the times are used to determine the seeding for the
first dual meet, as well as helping coaches to know what events to
enter each swimmer in and setting up relays.
Meet Entries: Our coaches determine which
events each swimmer will compete in each week. This is to make sure
we have swimmers in each event and to maximize the chance fore
individual and team success. The “A” relay will be
made up of the four fastest times. The “B” relay will
be the next four fastest times. If a swimmer cannot be at a meet
due to vacation, illness, or other conflict, let the coaches know,
in writing, the Tuesday of the upcoming weekend meet, so he/she can
be scratched from the list of swimmers. Should something happen
after Tuesday that would prevent a swimmer from attending the meet,
parents should call the coach or coach liaison. This is EXTREMELY
important in assigning the swimmers to relays and individual events
so that the meet runs quickly and efficiently.
Before the Meet: To swim your best, get a
good night’s sleep before the meet and eat a high
carbohydrate dinner. Eat something light and not sugary for
breakfast. Avoid candy and sodas during the meet, and drink plenty
of fluids (water, Gatorade).
Check-in: Swimmers MUST check-in on the
morning of the meet. The check-in times for each meet will be given
to swimmers during practice. At home meets, there will be a
check-in table. For away meets, check-in is in front of the
clubhouse. (If you should miss it, check in immediately when you
arrive at the pool). If you
do not check in, you will be scratched from all
relays!! After check-in, swimmers
can find out the number of their events, and get the numbers
written on their hands.
Warm-up: All swimmers will
participate in a short warm-up to get used to the water, and
practice starts, finishes, strokes and turns.
What to expect at the
meets: Lots of
kids, noise, heat, excitement, food, and fun. Bring something for
your children to do (cards, games, books, etc.) and something to
sit on while they wait for their events. Food and beverages may be
purchased, or brought from home. Be sure to bring plenty of fluids
for the swimmers.
Heat Sheets: A heat sheet
is a guide to all of the events and swimmers at the meet. They
usually cost $1 to $2. Ads can purchased in our home heat sheets
for your swimmer with a good luck, picture or anything you would
like.
During the Meet: It is very important that swimmers
stay in the team area. Swimmers are called to line up
several events before they actually swim, and they need to be where
they can hear their event being called. Other
guidelines:
1.
Wear sunscreen.
2.
No running, wrestling, throwing things or rowdy
behavior
3.
Never leave a meet without notifying a coach. Even
if you think you are done, it may be possible that you are needed
for a relay.
4.
Whether home or away, keep your area neat, and pick
up all trash before you leave.
Time frame of Meets: Swim meets are held on
Saturdays. Check-in times start around 6:15 to 6:30 am depending on
the time to travel to the meet. Warm-ups usually start around 7:00
am. Meets normally start at 8:15 am and end around 2:00 pm. The
Divisional Swim Meet could last until 4:00 pm, as it is a meet with
all six teams in our division.
Events: Each meet consists of 78 events.
Each event may have more than one heat of swimmers. A swimmer may
enter up to 5 events per meet, with the maximum number of
individual events limited to three.
Before leaving: Before leaving the meet, all
swimmers must check-in with the coach to ensure they are not in a
relay and are done for the day.
